World-class trumpeter who's performed with jazz legends

James Gibbs III and his quartet present Straight Ahead Jazz, a set of upbeat tunes, frenetic improvisations and smooth ballads. James on trumpet, backed by bass, keyboards and drums, perform both standards and deep cuts, with a few originals mixed in. James’s masterful playing imbues each cut with his signature uncompromising vision.

Newark’s own James Gibbs III is a world-class trumpeter, producer, music director, arranger, music engineer, and educator. He’s played professionally from the age of 16, working with jazz legends like Betty Carter, Terrence Blanchard, and Roy Hargrove. He was mentored by the late, great Donald Byrd while attending Delaware State University.
