While You're Away: Love Songs of WWII
A Concert Lecture by Prof. Diane Cypkin, PhD
Sunday, July 19
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Main Library
Meeting RoomThe songs and stories of another revolution
We’re gonna take a sentimental journey. Diane Cypkin and pianist Lena Panfilova will transport you to the time of another revolutionary war: World War II. By combining her performing and teaching artistry, Dr. Cypkin skillfully tells the stories of the love songs of World War II in a way that is both entertaining and educational. Learn the backstories of songs like Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree and As Time Goes By. Listen to anecdotes about artists like Dame Vera Lynn and Edith Piaf.
As the daughter and sister of holocaust survivors, these songs are deeply personal to Dr. Cypkin. This concert is her “thank you” to the soldiers who saved her family.
Limited seating is first-come, first-served.
