The state-run guardianship system, called conservatorship in some states, is largely unregulated, ill-understood, and increasingly populated by financially motivated predators.
In We’re Here to Help: When Guardianship Goes Wrong, investigative journalist Diane Dimond examines guardianship and its real-life effects by telling the human stories behind the headlines, and shows how to avoid the risks of voluntary or involuntary guardianship. Dimond states “abusive and financially exploitative guardianships don't just happen to seniors. Many citizens living with a disability - be it intellectually, physically or psychiatrically - are often the target of guardianship insiders who prey on the vulnerable.” This frank discussion is intended for adults, families and/or caregivers of someone who may require guardianship in the future.
Ms. Dimond's book, We're Here to Help, will be available for purchase at the conclusion of her presentation.
