A way to diminish the effects of “summer slide”
A way to diminish the effects of “summer slide” (a decline in reading and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn't in session.)
Children entering grades 1 through 4 can practice their reading and/or math skills with a helpful teen volunteer for 30 minutes once per week for the month of July or August. You may register your child for 30 minutes of reading, 30 minutes of math, OR 15 minutes of both. Reading & Math Buddies is for PRACTICE only. Teen Buddies are neither teachers nor tutors; they are helping to reinforce your child’s existing skills.
Spaces are limited ~ please select only one time slot at only one branch.
Your registration is valid for all Wednesdays in July (5, 12, 19, and 26) at 2:30 pm.
Please arrive at the Children's Room approximately 5 minutes before your session begins. Arrival more than 10 minutes after your session's start time will result in forfeiture of that day's session; there are no make-up sessions available.
It is expected that the child's parent/guardian will remain in the Library during their child's Reading & Math Buddy session. Parents may NOT solicit Teen Buddies for tutoring or babysitting services.
