The Wind in the Willows and Mary Poppins are beloved children’s classics, yet both were written with adult readers in mind. Beneath the imaginative adventures lie subtle literary references and mythic themes, including echoes of Odysseus and the Great Mother. In this lecture, literary historian Mary DeForest examines the deeper meanings that have captivated readers across generations.
