Celebrate National Poetry Month with a 19th century superstar
For National Poetry Month we celebrate the life and work of Paul Laurence Dunbar. Poet and actress Lorraine Stone will explore his poetry and short stories, his tumultuous life, and his use of (and later disdain for) dialect. Learn about the barriers he broke, like being the only African-American poet in the 19th century to garner international acclaim, and the author of the first all Black Broadway musical.
Lorraine Stone is a poet, author, and founding member of the Asbury Park Reporter and the Asbury Park Museum. She is a 30-year member of the Dunbar Repertory Company.
The Main Library on Plainfield Avenue next to the Edison Train Station. The library offers an extensive children’s room, a Meeting Room/Event Space, and a dedicated Maker Space.
