After their family is killed in a government massacre, siblings Enrique and Rosa flee Guatemala and embark on a perilous journey to "El Norte". After receiving help from friends and advice from a veteran immigrant on strategies for traveling, they make their way to Los Angeles. Finding low-wage work, they attempt to build new lives while navigating the perils of being undocumented in the United States.
