Oleana Whispering Dove, Keeper of Cultural Lifeways for the Ramapo-Munsee Heritage Gallery, will provide an oral historical account and cultural interpretation of the Indigenous Nations within the Tri-state region of NY, NJ, CT. From 1654 to present day, what was the landscape and community life of the place known to Natives as Turtle Island, and known today as the Tri-state? Are street names a sign of those who lived here? Where did the word Lenape originate? What differences are there, if any, between Eastern and Western tribes?
Open to adults and teens. Registration is suggested and begins Monday, January 8 at 9:30 am.
The Main Library on Plainfield Avenue next to the Edison Train Station. The library offers an extensive children’s room, a Meeting Room/Event Space, and a dedicated Maker Space.
